The word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit” (Hebrews 4:12, NASB)
Our spirit and our soul are not the same thing. When we come to the Lord Jesus and are baptized in His Name, our spirit is regenerated. Our soul, however, is needing to be set free from the old self-life. The soul is very much a part of “the flesh”. Our thought life, heart, emotions and our will are needing transformation so that we can walk in Spirit and Truth. Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life. (Proverbs 4:23 NASB) How can we follow Jesus in spirit and truth if we don’t recognize those areas in our heart (soul) that need to change, to be healed?
Sometimes believers become confused when they still feel shame, guilt, fear, rejection, and spiritual attacks. They start doubting this new life in Christ because of problems they are experiencing in their souls. Satan loves to take advantage of this. It is so important to understand that the spirit is regenerated at conversion, but our soul is not. We still have what people refer to as “baggage” from our past life. There are many lies we believe about ourselves, about God, about others because of experiencing traumas, rejections, lack of healthy bonding with parents, and others. We often need help from ministers of deliverance to help us discover those places that need the truth (whole counsel of God) to replace the lies so we can walk out our soul-healing.
In our 12 years of praying with and for people, we find that soul-healing greatly strengthens the relationship and walk with the Lord in miraculous ways. The life of purpose in Christ truly becomes an exciting journey of discovery.
Love you guys!
